Art for an upcoming card game called Olde Fae, from Changeling Artist Collective, It’s a multi-artist project based on “Old Maid”, where every artist picked a symbol (wand in my case) and interprets two playing cards depicting the Faerie of the Seelie Court as well as the Unseelie court. I decided to have fun with birds, and chose types of birds slightly off the beaten track: swallows for the Seelie side, shrikes for the Unseelie.
The project will come to Kickstarter later this year – I’ll keep you updated!
Watercolour on Canson Aquarelle paper, A3 size.
Gorgeous art, as ever. Are those actual bird skulls being used as helms? I’m trying to work out scale. :-)
I meant them to be actual bird skulls, yes! I used crows as models (as they’re easiest to find ref of). Though I probably did mean these guys to be smaller than that would imply. :)
I thought they were, but you should never assume! :-)
A rare, and good, attitude on the Internet. :)
Hey, I just noticed your profile pic looks like mine on Facebook!
Yes, we went last year. Spent a week in the New Forest. Going back this August! Did you manage to book a private viewing / tour of the stones? We didn’t. But I may someday.
No, we didn’t! I remember when it was possible to walk right up to and among them though – the first time I saw them, in 1991, we still could.
That’s only possible now in the private viewings, I think, which are around £100-150, if I recall correctly. You’re very fortunate to have seen them multiple times, and once so close!
